Sphynx

A Sphynx is a catperson with the body of a large cat (typically a lion), and the face of a human. The Sphynx is well-known for having a high intellect and great knowledge of both the physical and mystical realm. Sphynx also typically enjoy riddling mortal men who come into contact with them. Should the person answer the riddle correctly, the Sphynx might pass on some of its great knowledge. Fail to answer the riddle, and be consumed by the beast.

The Sphynx is a master magic user, able to inflict great damage with its spells. However, cut off the magic and a Sphynx is as weak as a kitten.

On a humorous note, a Brazilian bikini wax in which all pubic hair is completely removed is sometimes termed a "Sphynx."
